Facelift

Overview

Your face is your identity and the appearance of your face impacts your self-confidence. If you don’t feel good about the way you look, it can be difficult to present yourself in a confident and authentic way. It is common knowledge that the first signs of ageing typically appear on the face. The smile lines get deeper, the jowls become more prominent, more wrinkles appear and the skin gets looser.  Consequently, a facelift is one of the most visible and common procedures in all of plastic surgery. The simple goal is to improve the appearance of a face which has been changed by the effects of age and gravity.

Result

A facelift procedure smoothes loose skin and wrinkles on the face and neck, tightens underlying tissues which have become lax and sagging with age, and gets rid of excess fatty tissue. The desired facelift produces a result in which the patient appears brighter, fresher and more alive. An excellent result may also make the subject appear younger than his or her real age.

Method

There are multiple methods to choose from when it comes to your facelift. These options are designed to target aesthetic issues that can occur in specific areas of the face. The Precision Medical Team of experts will guide you through the options available to ensure you meet your aesthetic objectives. In the hands of our experienced surgeons like, you will look naturally younger, not too tight or overdone.

Process

A facelift is performed under heavy intravenous sedation or, more commonly, under general anesthesia. This will allow you to be completely asleep and comfortable during the entire procedure. Incision points may vary, however, the most common are in discreet areas within the hairline and/or behind the ears. Sometimes, another incision is required under the chin. Excess skin is excised, and liposuction may be used to remove fatty tissue. In more advanced cases of aging, excess SMAS (supporting deeper tissue of the face) may be removed and sometimes used as a graft to fill deeper lines. The skin and underlying tissue are then redraped for a tighter, lifted, more youthful look.

Post-Treatment Care

After surgery, a compression bandage will be placed around your face and neck to help minimize the bruising and swelling that will occur post-operatively. A small tube may also be placed under the skin to allow excess fluid and blood to drain from the incision site for a complete recovery.

Objective

The best result is achieved when the patient does not appear to have had an operation at all. The result will make the patient look fresher, brighter and possibly younger. The Precision Medical surgeons employ advanced techniques to make the facelift almost undetectable. People notice you look better, but they aren’t sure why. A facelift may be combined with a necklift which lifts and tightens loose and sagging skin at the front or sides of the neck. The procedure can be very effective at improving the neck contour and neckline and compliment a facelift procedure.

Downtime

Swelling and bruising may take several weeks to resolve, and incision lines may take up to six months or more to fade and flatten.  A facelift can cause some soreness in the face, but is typically not overly painful. Some numbness will be present over the cheeks, but this almost always resolves with time. Most patients can return to normal activity and work within 2-3 weeks.
